The Ohio State Fair ran July 23rd to August 3rd at the Fairgrounds in Columbus. Here are a few of the highlights.
The BUTTER COW DISPLAY - The greater than life size butter cow and calf sculptures are in the Dairy Products Building continuing a long traditions started in 1903.
CREATIVE ART EXHIBIT - Kasich Hall is the site of quilts, crafts, baked goods and artistry.
FINE ARTS - Paintings, sculptures, photography and more are in this building.
ANIMALS - From cattle, goats, horses, llamas, poultry, sheep, rabbits and more. Check the web site. Don’t forget to see the baby animals at the Animal Care Center.
My remembrances of the State Fair as a youth:
OHIO STATE FAIR BAND AND YOUTH CHOIR - I remember playing in the band at the State Fair. We all stayed in a room above the cow bar, and it was a lot of fun.
4H EXHIBITS and JUDGING - These are events that show the amazing abilities and creativity of young people in sewing and crafts. Elaine Lutz and I had the opportunity to be in a 4H Club here in Trumbull County led by Mrs. Nedrow. She must have been very patient!
There are many 4H entries in animals and everything from table settings to home decorating to science.
